The Top 7 - Christmas Songs

Usually, ritu does the Top 7 but I figured being the editor and all, I might do one myself. Also, I don’t think that there’s a lot of christmas stuff going on in india (correct me if I’m wrong).

I don’t really know how to rate christmas songs, since I only have one favorite and I will mention that one later. These are the songs that I believe should be on everyones christmas song list though.
One song that I’ve grown to like over the years now is Olivia Olson’s All I want for christmas is you. It’s part of the Love Actually soundtrack and even though at first I thought it’s just another christmas pop song I’ve grown to like it more and more for it’s quality of not forcing you into that pious state where everything goes calm and holy…

Gf really likes Dolly Parton’s Hard Candy Christmas. It’s hopeful and kind of positive although one might not think so at first. I like that. I’m not a big Dolly fan but I’ve grown to like some of her songs. This is one of them.

The next song I wanna include is Oh come all ye faithful. Being a little old-fashioned I like the bing crosby version best, but there are so many other beautiful versions around that it’s up to everyone.

This next one was actually a poem and then became a christmas carol. It came upon a midnight clear just flows throught the room. I don’t know if anyone else recorded it because I like my Sixpence none the richer version so much, I never went looking for another one.

An all time fav for a lot of people I know is River. I’ve listened to it one time too many, so I’m a bit less enthusiastic about it but once or twice a year is ok. So that at some point I will be able to fully enjoy it again. I do recommend the Robert Downey jr version and also the one by Sarah McLachlan.

Song # 6 is Winter Wonderland by Macy Gray. Just listen for yourself. No more comments needed.

Being Austrian and all, I should have Silent Night as a number one Christmas song I guess, but that would be a lie left and right and that’s why my absolute favorite Christmas song ever is Have yourself a merry little Christmas. (fav version by Tori Amos of course:) I didn’t like Christmas until the last 2 years or so. Maybe as a very little child I did but I can’t remember that. So I usually tried to have myself my very own merry little Christmas and that song reflects that so beautifully.

Bonus: Tori as she improvises a new Christmas song at a concert in San Francisco on Dec. 21st, 2002.

well I saw one, apparently good, bollywood movie and apart from it lasting for hours I found myself shocked about the ending, when that guy really died. Devdas with Shahrukh Khan in case you wanna know the specifics…I swore to myself that it was the first and the last bollywood movie I’m ever watching again.

of course bend it.. is a bollywood film, might have been shot in Uk but is through and through bollywood film.
Lagaan is long and boring in my opinion.
